Art students visit Tate Britain
Year 10 and Year 11 students visited the Tate Britain Gallery last week to complete aspects of their GCSE Art work.
Mrs Brenton, Subject Leader for Art, reported that Year 10 students produced detailed studies which will greatly benefit their preparation work for an upcoming sculpture project based on natural forms. In the gallery photographs below, you can see students making observational studies of works by Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth.
Year 11 students also visited the gallery to make preparation studies for their examination. The title for their project this year is Reflection, so students used the opportunity to draw from artists’ work which have a strong narrative and reflective context, or included physical reflections in their work. They looked at a range of artists, especially focusing on paintings by Marlene Dumas, William Dobson, Chris Ofili and Stanley Spencer.
Students reported that the trip was very beneficial to their studies. We look forward to seeing their future work as a result of this visit.
