Literary achievement: SCD pupils win national monologue competition

Over the summer, several pupils put their creative writing talents to the test by entering an original monologue competition hosted by the Wireless Theatre Company. Participants were challenged to craft an original piece for the opportunity to have their work professionally recorded and distributed. Following a highly competitive selection process, three pupils, Hafsah, Aliza and Isabelle, were named overall winners. Their entries were commended for their exceptional quality, earning each pupil a monetary prize. As part of their award, Hafsah, Aliza and Isabelle now have the unique opportunity to either record the monologues themselves or have professional actors bring their scripts to life. A huge thank you goes to our LAMDA teacher, Sarah Golding, for bringing this opportunity to our pupils. Outside of her work at SCD, Sarah is the Production Manager for Wireless Theatre, a freelance audio fiction director, writer, editor, and voice actor with over 200 podcast credits to her name. Her recent work includes producing Done to Death by Brendon Connelly and Hope Bourne by Zalie Burrow (starring Dame Eileen Atkins and Alex Jennings) for BBC Radio 4, hosting the Indie AF and ADWIT podcasts, and organising the annual Audio Drama Hubfest in High Wycombe. The entire school community extends its warmest congratulations to Hafsah, Aliza and Isabelle on this impressive literary accomplishment.

In an outstanding display of skill and athletic ability, she received offers from both Team Bath and Loughborough for their U17 Player Development Programmes (PDP). What makes this accomplishment even more remarkable is that Martha secured these offers a year early, competing successfully against older, highly experienced players. Following her trials, she has officially accepted her place with Loughborough U17 PDP. This phenomenal success is a direct result of her strong work ethic, determination and relentless drive to improve. The entire school community is immensely proud of her achievement and looks forward to supporting her as she takes this exciting next step in her elite sporting journey. Congratulations, Martha
