Drama Showcase and News!

The Drama Showcase was held on 28th June. There were open auditions for students of all ages to come and perform a monologue, duologue, sing a solo or musical theatre piece or perform as a group. The drama was of their own devising or alternatively a LAMDA examination piece.

The evening was run by the Drama Prefects, Rebecca, Imogen and Daniel.  Twenty groups performed in total, and it was a fantastic evening to showcase many of our wonderfully talented students.

In September the drama department will be offering students the opportunity to take LAMDA examinations. These will be available to students who wish to gain experience of performing, boost their confidence in communication or presentation techniques, or who just love Drama and Musical Theatre. Further information will be sent out to students at the beginning of the Autumn Term.

This month, students have also attended 'As You Like It' auditions for the Shakespeare Schools Festival, with many students coming back from study leave to ensure that they could audition. The annual Festival is the Shakespeare Schools’ Foundation’s flagship project and the world’s largest youth drama festival. The collaborative performances, including our students, will be performed on 7th November 2018 at The Watersmeet Theatre, Rickmansworth.

Congratulations to 7 Dane, who won the Year 7 Interform Competition on Thursday 5th July.

The drama department have also been busy with trips to London theatres. On 4th July, Year 12 students went to see 'The Jungle' at The Playhouse Theatre. Head of Drama, Mrs Ingleby, said the play ‘was one of the best pieces of theatre that I have seen in a long time’.

On Tuesday 10th July, a group of Year 7 students visited the Globe Theatre. Drama teacher Mrs McQuoid reported that the students had a lovely day, visiting behind the scenes at the theatre, and also saw the RAF flyby as an added bonus!
