Summer Concert "Perfect"
Danes Student Journalist, Evie James, 7A, reports …
On Wednesday 27th June, at 7.00pm, the Summer Music Concert was held in the Barbirolli hall and was yet another brilliant performance. Various solos, bands, choirs, orchestras and quartets took part.
Kicking off the show was the First Orchestra, playing Symphony No.7 by Beethoven, conducted professionally by Maxwell (as Miss Stevens had to fill in for an ill viola player). The next acts were performed on piano by John Cutting who was on top form, and the brand new ‘Wind warriors’ who played brilliantly. Euan Thomas and Josie Illingworth-Law were next with amazing performances of Toccata in D minor by Bach, and an AS composition. After that was the small but powerful String Quartet where yet again Miss Stevens stepped in to fill an empty spot. Nick Pullen and Maddie Martin were next with solo pieces, Nick with Capricho Arabe, and Maddie with Wishing you were Somehow Here Again by Lloyd Webber. The second orchestra played March by Handel and the first half was then finished off by the junior choir with This Is Me from the well-known musical ‘The Greatest Showman’.
Our fantastic band ‘Not White Noise’ then kicked of the second half by playing their original songs Emotional and Figured Out. After that was Flying Home, played by the Jazz band, and the theme from Schindler’s list played by James Linch. There were then three soloists, who were: Daniel Wallace who played Aria by Bozza, Franchesca webster on the violin, playing Boy Paganini and Alex Pullen, who played Attraction by Sejourne. The Jazz ensemble then played Summer Wind and finishing off the night were the 6th Form Vocal group with Mama I’m a Big Girl Now from the musical Hairspray and the Gospel Choir who sang Jazz Cantate by Andy Beck. Mr Sutherland then ended the night by describing it as “A perfect way to finish off his first year at St Clement Danes”.
Thank you to everyone who participated and well done to everyone – it truly was a night to remember.
